Arenko powers global energy transition with international expansion into North America and Europe

  • Following its £9m fundraise earlier this year, Arenko’s AI-enabled Nimbus software platform will optimise battery storage assets in the US, Germany, and Ireland.
  • Arenko’s technology empowers customers to improve competitiveness, safeguard performance, and maximise returns, unlocking the confidence to scale globally
  • Successful launch of Arenko’s international expansion showcases UK’s ability to export proven innovation to solve global energy challenges

Arenko, a market-leader in energy asset optimisation software, has successfully launched its international expansion programme, moving into high-growth North American and European markets. Following commercial agreements last year, Arenko’s AI-enabled Nimbus software platform has been rolled out across six operational Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) assets in the United States, Germany and Ireland, marking a significant milestone in the company’s growth and the global export of UK energy technology.

As global energy systems face increasing complexity from the integration of renewables and battery storage, Arenko’s Nimbus platform provides the essential technological framework to manage market volatility and optimise asset performance at scale. The software empowers renewable energy investors and operators to maximise returns by creating a foundational digital infrastructure that standardises, connects, and translates asset data into intelligent action.

Nimbus processes five billion data points per day demonstrating its ability to reliably process large volumes of information at scale, ensuring speed, accuracy, and trust for users. By providing a portfolio-wide digital backbone, the platform simplifies operations, reduces costs, and unlocks new growth opportunities for customers expanding beyond their home markets.

Rupert Newland, Founder and CEO of Arenko Group, said: “This expansion is a pivotal moment for Arenko. Built and proven in the UK, one of the world’s most advanced and volatile energy markets, we are now taking our proven expertise to the global stage. Our mission is to provide the digital backbone for the zero-carbon grid. By partnering with asset owners in North America and Europe, we are delivering tangible improvements in grid stability, renewable energy profitability, and the overall pace of the energy transition. This expansion demonstrates that our technology is not just scalable, but essential for de-risking investments and maximising returns in the new energy landscape.”

The Nimbus platform generates a single source of truth for BESS sites’ technical and commercial data, enabling asset owners to integrate with a range of AI applications developed by Arenko and third parties. Use of the platform has led to an average of c.21% improvement in EBITDA whilst reducing CAPEX and OPEX for sites.

The international expansion provides concrete evidence of the platform’s transferability and robustness for complex, multi-asset operations. It includes:

  • United States: Deployment across three Texas-based BESS sites (Sweetwater, Snyder & Westover) with a combined capacity of 30MW. The projects are critical for providing reliability to the Texas power system as the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) projects a huge rise in electricity demand to 218GW by 2031, driven by the buildout of the state’s data centre sector.
  • Germany: The 22MW Cremzow BESS project, one of Germany’s early large-scale battery projects, is currently providing balancing and frequency services to the country’s grid.
  • Ireland: Two additional BESS assets that will support the Irish grid’s high levels of renewable penetration.

This international milestone underscores the UK’s position as a global hub for energy innovation with Arenko’s technology now supporting major international energy companies including RWE, Ørsted, Vattenfall, ElectroRoute and Gore Street Energy Storage Fund. Arenko is a market leader in the real-world application of machine learning and was the first in the UK to fully automate end-to-end trading activities for battery storage. The successful export of this technology demonstrates the global competitiveness of British expertise in solving the world’s most pressing energy challenges.
